Traveling to Vietnam has never been easier. The Vietnam Immigration Department offers a single entry e-Visa to nationals from 80 countries, for a period of 30 days. When I planned my trip to Vietnam, I applied for an e-Visa and my entry to Vietnam was absolutely seamless.

Visa on Arrival v/s e-Visa

Several nationals are also eligible for a Visa on Arrival, in Vietnam. However, I would recommend the Vietnam e-Visa over Visa on Arrival because it saves time and avoids the hassle of waiting in long queues at the counter and filling forms while standing. The only trade-off is that an e-Visa costs around 5 USD more than a visa on arrival, but it also saves a lot of time and is worth opting for.

Where to Apply for a Vietnam e-Visa?

One can apply for an e-Visa here. Choose the Visa Type as ‘evisa – 30 days, single entry‘ and fill out the online form. You will be required to upload a soft copy of your passport size photo and the first and last pages of your passport where your details are printed. You will also be required to mention the dates of entry/exit and the ports/airports of entry/exit in Vietnam (you can actually enter Vietnam by land, sea or air). The cost of a Vietnam e-Visa is 35 USD and you will need a Credit Card or an International Debit Card to make the payment.

What Next?

Once you apply for the Vietnam e-Visa, you will get an email from in 2-3 days with an attached copy of your e-Visa. Make sure you verify all the details and take print outs of the same (black and white will do). Carry two copies of your Vietnam e-Visa with you, and when you arrive in Vietnam, head straight to the Immigration Counter and show your e-Visa to the Immigration Officer. Once it is approved, you will gain entry to Vietnam.
